The Respite

I have walked
Many a mile in my life
Till the legs are aching
To a point a respite is begging
The young whisk past me
And I don't complain
It is we that raised thee
Not to stop where we did

The space along the plains
And top of the mountains
All mine to roam
To roam like a king

In the thick of battle

Not the first to move
Sometimes not at all
Not at the center or a gambit
Not in the plan almost

Likely to survive
Through the battle and war
Having less stories to tell
And lesser stories about
