Birth of a Poem

Painting of Russian writer Evgeny Chirikov by Ivan Kulikov, 1904

A poem
Arises from the need
Of a release
A transformation
Of one emotion
To another

The Rook's Pawn

Pic. Garry Knight (Wikimedia Commons)

He stands
In the far off flank
Almost forgotten
In the thick of battle

Not the first to move
Sometimes not at all
Not at the center or a gambit
Not in the plan almost

Likely to survive
Through the battle and war
Having less stories to tell
And lesser stories about

Glue

Vincent van Gogh - Weeping Woman

Endless tears that flow
Can never glue together
Bits and pieces
Of a broken heart

The Blindness

The naked eyes shined
But they are so blind
To the aura and mind
In a human they find

The Stalker

"The Death of Minnehaha" by William de Leftwich Dodge

He stalks
Everyone from the beginning
Till the certain end
Only he knows when
The stalker
Is death

Poems

Pic. 'Throes of Creation' by Leonid Pasternak

Poems
Are about words
Lines and terms
Metaphors
Things said
And unsaid
Between the lines
And beyond

Rainbow

Pic: Jerry MagnuM Porsbjer, Wikimedia Commons

The sky turns sour
Darkens
Explodes
Breaking down in tears
Relieving its pain
By battering poor earth
Clears its face
Perhaps so happy
To smile colorfully

The Meeting

Pic. Pavel Shapovalov

The big round eyes
Met accidentally
Spoke a thousand words
To me perhaps
Or to someone ahead of me
Or beyond me
Nothing said aloud
That I could hear
Thoughts tumbled
Answers fumbled
My eyes said something
Before she went on

The Message

Amazing old Mango Tree. Pic by Daveiam @Flickr shared under Creative Commons Generic 2.0 License

I open the window
To calmness
Brighter and serene
Than the depths and crevices
The nooks and cracks
The turns and paths
In my labyrinthine mind
The mango tree
Now old and fruitless
Stands
Bathed in full moon light
Calm
Happy
Proud
There are other mango trees
It says
And other trees
But apart from them all
There is me
It says
I listen
And close the window

The Mirror

Keeping her face
On the lake surface
She asks herself
Am I pretty
Water ripples
Never stop
Like her heart and mind
Never rests
Mirrors tell of her beauty
The river
Tells her of her heart
Pretty but ripples
With ups and downs

Whiteness out of darkness

Pic by Natalya Sorokina

Out of lonely darkness
And the frightening freezing cold
Falls a million snowflakes
Pristine white and pure

Like the First Love

The First Snow (Natalya Sorokina)

The first snow
Falls out of nowhere
Like the first love

And melts very soon
Leaving the lingering thought
That it was an accident

The Strength of Love

A shrine for love (Pic. MarcBW, Wikimedia Commons)

A poor man
Lost his love
He lamented and lamented
And lamented till he died
Alone
Heartbroken

An Emperor
Lost his love
He lamented and lamented
And built a shrine
So the world could remember his love
And him also

It cost a fortune
And also his crown
Oh, and some workers who worked to death
And the designer who lost his hands

He died in prison
Lamenting for love and lamenting for crown
Alone
Heartbroken

Which love was stronger?
The poor man’s?
The Emperor’s?
Which love was holier?

Correct note, correct time

Pic by Darya Bulavina

All keys have distinct notes
High pitch and also low
Frequency difference
Blending to make a melody

At your fingertips
When you feel the notes
The correct key at correct time
Adding music to life

How much you know the notes
Have to feel it deep within
Correct note, correct time
Pushing, touching one’s own heart

Misplacing the notes
Lands one in a cacophony
Humorous at best
Catastrophic at worse

Hands

Pic by Rukshan Abeywansha

Hands are tools
Unique
Individual
Works in pairs
And singles at times
Probes and explores
Feels
Speaks volumes
About their owner
Creates identity
And always
Leave their prints
